Shrinking the delta between anticipated and actual insurance claims recovery

We are pleased to introduce CEERS™ (Claims Expedition and Enhanced Recovery Specialists), a newly formed not-for-profit Association.  The Founding Members, as risk professionals, have been concerned for some time about the growing uncertainty and dissatisfaction with insurance claims – in terms of recovery amounts, protracted time for settlement and cost.  The issue appears to be systemic and without guidance and/or intervention, the trajectory appears bleak.  We believe that a more all-inclusive and pro-active approach is required for the good of all involved.  Insureds should not have to wait for a claim situation to understand what is covered and to what extent.

CEERS™ welcomes all members of the risk and insurance community as Sponsors and/or Members with membership rates to be provided soon.  In addition, through its website, CEERS™ will soon be providing White Papers on various topical issues.  Members who act as economic buyers of insurance will have an outreach opportunity and resources for assistance.  Members who act as service providers and/or insurers will be invited to respond to problems and/or advertise their services.  CEERS™ will lobby for industry reform on an unbiased basis.

Message from the Board

To be clear, CEERS™ is NOT a cause, but rather, was born of the recognition of the glaring need to stop the growing trend of reduced insurance claims recovery and lengthened recovery times which inevitably lead to (often contentious) disputes between the parties.  In turn, these disputes are not only problematic for the economic buyer, but also create reputational risk for the insurance sector and, therefore, it is to the benefit of all parties to address this systemic issue.  CEERS™ is an effort to proactively alter the landscape with the co-operation of all parties – and in a fashion that enlightens economic buyers and provides them with the opportunity to engage professional services to satisfy their in-house needs.

Over the years, it appears that insurance may have lost its way by

failing to keep the purpose of insurance at its forefront and no longer acts to keep the insured whole and providing predictable financing in downgrading insurable events.  Instead, policy wordings have grown longer and more complex as insurers seek to reduce cover all while adjusting times appear to be lengthening.  While other factors may be at play, the obvious conclusion reached by the general public, rightly or wrongly, is that this is done by insurers in an attempt to prioritize corporate and personal profit at the expense of the insured.

The goal of CEERS™ is to provide insureds with a better understanding of the their insurance coverage and its limitations, thereby avoiding the surprise to them in the event of a loss, thus allowing them to properly plan and prepare in case such a loss should happen.  Further, representations of service offerings are often exaggerated in respect of most insureds in that  they do not pay enough in premiums to be afforded in-depth assistance needed to understand and manage their exposures and coverage; leaving economic buyers in the dark about the efficacy of their risk and insurance programs – until loss strikes.

It’s time to put the insureds first again.
